TODAY’S QUESTION:

I need to recreate flower arrangements that would be indicative of those used in the movies or around Hollywood or in movie stars homes in the Art Deco era.

ANSWERS:

Calla Lillies, as cut flower, “the white ones are popular at Easter and in wedding bouquets where they epitomize the 1930′s glamour … They have such superb lines that they have been used frequently in Art Nouveau … ” http://experts.about.com/q/Floral-Arrangements-2142/Finding-calla-lillies.htm

I personally think they are very nice as a simple boquet using only the Calla Lillies with ribbon and/or pearls wrapped/tied around the stems.

“Dahlias, quite the hot item in the 1920s and 1930s, are suddenly rising to the forefront again” http://goliath.ecnext.com/coms2/summary_0199-1667785_ITM

Haven’t found anything to back this up yet, but I think roses might have also been big in the 30′s
